Quilted Pencil Case Rollin Rollin - Work In Progress

The end of the school year is coming. In the class of my niece the parents decided to give quilted pencil cases as presents to the teachers and they asked me to make them. I started to collect together fabrics in a way that they, while not looking all the same, belong to the same family. These rose covered fabrics were purchased back in Italy and they look beautiful together.

 

 As today is a Work In Progress Wednesday, I will step back in time for a bit and show you this afternoon’s WIP pencil cases! Here the cases are already finished up and I just have to make the room for the pencils.

 I loaded the pencils, so if I roll up the case I can decide where to sew the button to close it up:

 They are finished!

I posted them this evening and I hope that not only will they get to there in time but the teachers will like them as well!

Fabric Coasters - Work In Progress

 

(First thing first: I am afraid that blogspot has a problem with the greens, because I have no idea how my lovely pastel greens became these wild wild greens on these photos. Sorry!)

These Shabby Chic coasters are almost finished, I've already sewed the green binding for it. The binding that is folded back is being held by the pins while I sew it down with my sewing machine on the front side "in the ditch".

Previously I always did the last sewing on the back by hand, but with lot of practice I finally learned how to do it with my sewing machine. I really loved to sew these last closing stitches with my hands in a comfortable armchair in front of the television, but I do have to admit that this way is a lot faster and thanks to all the practice by now it looks just as good.

Fabric Journal Reloaded

I am working on a couple of new fabric journals as even though I know that modern tools are very helpful, but I trust that there are others in the world like me, who actually like to note down their thoughts into a notebook, to scribble down a good receipt quickly or to happen to design their very next crafting project.

I will get a few pictures of the new ones as they get finished, but in the meanwhile here is two of my fabric journals which I have taken some new pictures of. My lovely Canon 40D camera is still quite new for me and I still have to learn a lot but I already love the pictures that I am able to take with it very much.

One of them is this beige-vanilla journal with the rosebuds and lace, really womanlike piece, even a bride could take quick notes of her wedding ideas in it.

I know Christmas is still pretty far off, but to look at a Poinsettia is always very pleasant, and I especially liked this Scottish tartan fabric alongside it. :)

Quilting and Beads

 

I’ve been thinking about it for weeks before (or instead of) falling to sleep, I even saw its color in front of me. Then newer colors as well that could also make it work. Finally last week I bought the new pintuck foot for my Elna 7300 and began to actualize.

Even though the foot didn’t work out (or I am clumsy), I still didn’t give up and kept trying until I achieved the result that I wanted to.

And here comes my favorite part where I already embroider the beads. :)

Blogs In The World – And My Adorable Award

I think it is amazing that all around the world still so many people keep their blogs up to date, though in the time of Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Flickr this is not so easy anymore. Lots of people take pictures daily, write and share their thoughts. I follow several blogs myself which can be seen on my bloglist and there are some that aren’t there but I still read them frequently!

I’ve learned lots of things from these blogs already and it is especially a good feeling that I can get to know the life, work, hobbies and thoughts of people who live far away from me, and even though we’ve never actually met each other, in good time they still became my good familiars.

Which is why it is great joy and honor that Ann from Magpie Quilts nominated my blog for the Liebster Blog Award. The word “Liebster” means “beloved” in German, and they award it to blogs that are even though quite small but are worthy of attention. I like this thought and it felt really good that Ann thought of me.

Happy Quilting! – National Quilting Day

Today is the National Quilting Day in the United States. Every third Saturday in March the National Quilting Day celebrates fabulous quilts and those who make them.

Happy Quilting Day!

Autumn Leaves Table Runner

When I quilted this table runner I used my own design for the big leaves in the middle and the smaller ones and tendrils on the side. On the back side of the runner the quilting is clearly visible.

I just checked it, I was already making the binding on the 21st of September and I was planning to finish this autumn quilt on the next day. And still, I can only show the finished table runner now, when every good quilter has been long working on the winter quilts already. ☺

By the time I was finished with it (a couple of days later of course) the sun went into hiding for some time and it only came out yesterday. I started to take pictures instantly and all the while I had to acknowledge that much like the weak counterpart, the very strong sunlight is also not very advantageous. Hobby photographers have a hard life!

I’d like to upload it tonight on Etsy, maybe someone would still like to decorate their home this autumn!

And you won’t believe it but I’m making the bindings for the matching mug rugs. Maybe I’ll finish it in the next couple of days, but who knows?

Autumn, Autumn

It seems Autumn is getting closer, soon I’ll be switching up my blog’s clothes as well, as I’ve already arranged the first page of my shop into its colors. All my current quilts are fit to Autumn in their colors as well.

This is the table runner I’m working on right now. You can see the backside, but if I do things right and finish by tomorrow then I will take a picture of the top as well. In the meanwhile I’d like to highlight the quilting that I designed. :)

I cut out the pieces of the matching mug-rugs today and I would like to sew those tomorrow as well.

Something Old And Something New, Something Borrowed And Something Blue

I like this saying a lot! When we got married back in 1987, I didn’t know it but I did in fact wear something old, something new and also – as a coincidence – I wore a beautiful pair turquoise earrings. Alas, I can’t remember anything that was borrowed. :)

The picture above of this beautiful wedding dress is borrowed though, you may find it in the shop of SwankUnderpinnings.

Anyway, when my close relatives ordered a photo album from me for a wedding (of one of my distant relatives), I knew it right away that it will have the colors of white and blue. This fantastic fabric with blue roses popped into my mind and this huge album had enough surface to let the roses to prevail on it.


During the work I took good use of the embroidery program of my sewing machine as well as the advices of my favorite neighbor! :)


Both my clients and the newly weds liked the result a lot, which made me very happy as well!

Since I was giving so much thought on weddings I took a look around on Etsy and created a treasury in this topic as well. I found such fantastic items that its worthwhile to take a closer look at some of them. You’ve already seen the wedding dress at the beginning of the post but now I highlighted two more pictures. Oh, and since we need something borrowed I gave this treasury something from my own shop. Can you find it?

Monday Moodboard – Photos In Green

Do you remember how often we craved in March for the warm air and the feel of sunshine?
Well we got it now, at least here in Hungary we did. The sun is shining so hard, the lights are so sharp that I spent the whole last week trying to take pictures of my new stuff but every single shot I grab of them give back catastrophic results. Truth be said, the colors of the nature are sharper, the green is greener so that is also part of the reason why I got into such a greeny mood.

Finally I had success with the photographing today: the sky got filled with cloud (indeed it seemed that there would be a storm) and even though they were gone by nighttime I could take some pretty good pictures. They finally give back the original colors of my new camera case that was made from one of my favorite fabric.

This beautiful Blue Hydrangea fabric was the summer tablecloth of my Grandma. As I was sewing this camera case (and previously a fabric cover for a notebook) I was constantly reminded of the wonderful summer family mealtimes. Maybe that is the point of vintage and recycling: to save and share.

I took a picture of the notebook together with the new camera case, I think they are looking great together.
